This journey leads to the romantic lake district. It´s landscape had been formed by glaciers and is well known for its emerald lakes, lovely villages and green wooden hills. This area has been chosen during summer times by the imperial family Hapsburg for recreation and wellbeing. Aristocrats, artists had followed Emperor Franz Josef and his pretty wife Elisabeth of Wittelsbach and this region has made an enormous cultural development.
St. Wolfgang has been the third most important aim of pilgrims during medieval times, also well known also for an Operetta " the "White horse inn" from 1933 and has developed as a vivid tourist attraction today.
After following Lake Fuschlsee, stopping for nice pictures at St. Gilgen - birthplace of W.A. Mozart´s mother (1720), continuing along Lake Wolfgangsee, where once during pre-Christian times, Celts had celebrated their “Imbolic fest”. This idyllic region offers outstanding testimonials of arts, like at St. Wolfgang church which you will explore with your private guide and art historian. Highlight beside the enchanting landscape are profound descriptions of the gothic Trypticon and virtuous sculptures by Meinrad Guggenbichler located in the abbey church of the Basilica Mondsee, well known as well as “ Wedding church” of Sound of Music.
